Welcome to our building blog for this semester! I am new to blogging, so I am still trying to get comfortable with the page. I feel like my grandma trying to text. OLD.
Did you add me as a admin of the site? Just want to make sure that is all squared away. Do you have any ideas on what we want to do as our end goal for what we want our students to do? I'm not sure what age group we are thinking but it could be anything from building a scale model of something to actually trying to build like a playground set or something?
You and Jamie should both be administrators as well. Let me know if it worked! I was thinking we could do Kindergarten or first grade, since I am early ed, but I also do not mind doing an older age group if you two are really passionate about a different age. I think we definitely have a lot of possibilities for this topic. I like the playground set idea! If we do choose Kindergarten or first grade, we could have them build a mini set out anything like legos, toothpicks and marshmallows, counting cubes, tinker toys, pipe-cleaners...ect. Those would be great for developing the student's fine motor skills. Or we could have them work on gross motor and use things such as dublos, solo cups, paper towel rolls, hula hoops. Even if we choose to have them build something other than a playground set, we could still use any of those manipulatives. Let me know what you guys think. -Amanda
Amanda, I love the idea of picking the younger grade. I'm currently teaching Pre-K and they LOVE doing hands on activities. The spaghetti noodles and mini marshmallows are a huge hit with the kids. I really like the idea!
So since it is a process type deal-- our end goal could be to have students make the bigger sized model using the papertowel roles and stuff. And one of the previous steps could be to make the mini sized one as a sample to how they will make the big one. That way they could work on both fine and gross motor skills.
Also, do you want them to build a playground set or do you have something else in mind? I just threw that out there. The example our professor posted for the concept map was building a boat. We could have them build a bike or something like that as well which would be fun!
I made an account at bubbl.us for our concept map... It's a free site and seems to be pretty cool. If you guys will please make an account on the site, I will add you to the group. Post your usernames or emails you used for it here!
Alright, I added you both to the concept map. I made it so you guys have full access to edit and what not with it, please let me know if it works! Thanks! :)
